Fun fact: it'd be incredibly easy to merge a bunch of texas's western counties into larger ones, which would eliminate over 80 counties. Source: a map I made about it because I was curious.

When trying to learn all 254 counties, I am the one who does not love a good grid. I keep getting to 252 and then one or two of those square counties around Lubbock screws up my perfect streak. Every. Single. Time.

These are the ones that approve the trash strip malls and Thrift stores around your new subdivision that destroy the value and increase traffic congestion. When you move out of the city, these are the assholes that build the city in your backyard. If hispanic, they approve ONLY hispanic applicants, hence Texas looks like a mexican rathole.

As of my last knowledge update in January 2022, Texas had 254 counties. Each county serves as a local administrative division with its own government. If there have been changes or updates since then, it would be advisable to consult the latest information from official Texas government sources for the most accurate count and any recent developments regarding counties in the state.

It seems very inefficient nowadays to have so many counties because there is too much duplication of services. If "local is best" then we wouldn't hate homeowners' associations so much and we wouldn't have situations like Boss Hogg on Dukes of Hazzard.
